As per reports, locals spotted the body floating in a pond near Adibasi Sahi of the village this morning and alerted the police.
The girl, identified as Swati, daughter of Sanjay Sahu and Sabita Sahu of Badhipatna village, had gone missing while she was playing near her house on Friday afternoon.
Based on her father’s complaint, local police and fire fighters had launched a massive search operation to trace the missing girl.
“We have recovered the body from a pond. The body will be sent to a hospital for autopsy test. Further investigation is underway,” a police official said.
Her family members however alleged that the girl was killed and her body was thrown in the pond.
The girl’s death comes in the wake of a massive uproar over the alleged abduction and murder of a five-year-old girl, Pari, in the district in July.
Pari, had gone missing in similar fashion while she was playing near her house at Jadupur village in the district on July 14 this year. Later on July 23, her decomposed body was found stuffed in a sack behind the house near a pond.
The opposition BJP and Congress have been targeting the State government on the issue ever since the Pari’s parents attempted self-immolation in front of the State Assembly on November 24, seeking justice for their daughter.
Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior IPS officer Arun Bothra has been probing the ‘Pari’ case.
