Balasore, Feb 13: A peculiar scene of deadly fight between a King Cobra and a mongoose was marked in the Shaivite site of Lord Panchalingeshwar at Nilgiri in Baleswar district on Saturday. The Mongoose injured the giant snake in the fight before it was rescued by forest officials.
According to information, the length of the King Cobra was nearly 12 feet. The mongoose stumbled upon it at a forest near the Pachalingeshwar Temple. The fight went on for about an hour. The King Cobra sometimes tried to climb up a tree. However, the mongoose went playing tricks and attacking it with its sharp teeth.
On being informed, Manoranjan Das, a tourist guide, reached the spot and rescued it. Later he handed over the snake to the Kuladiha forest department.
“The injured King Cobra is now undergoing treatment at the veterinary centre at Nilgiri. After recovery, it will be freed in Kuladiha sanctuary,” said Kuldiha Ranger Bijay Mohapatra.
