A major mishap was averted last night after a stationary truck caught fire on National Highway-60 in Balasore district and the blaze was brought under control later.
The mishap took place late in the night while the truck had been parked near Laxmannath toll plaza and the driver and helper were resting inside it. After sparks erupted inside the vehicle and smokes started billowing out the duo rushed out to save their lives.
Local residents accompanied by toll plaza workers swung into action immediately and brought the flames under control.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an electric short circuit in the engine is being suspected behind it.
