Addressing a Press meet here, NKS State coordinator Sheshadeba Nanda said the millers have planned to collect unwarranted profit by cutting four to five kg per quintal of paddy and by procuring paddy from farmers outside the Mandi between Rs 1,200 and and Rs 1,300.
“The State Government has made a budgetary allocation of Rs 12,000 crore for procurement of paddy. However, millers have targeted to bungle Rs 1,000 crore by adopting different fraudulent ways. So far, Rs 350 crore has already been pocketed by them. Despite repeated requests, the Government has not taken any action,” alleged Nanda.
Nanda demanded that the State Government stop paddy procurement through millers at the earliest and ensure that paddy is procured at right prices from all farmers. He threatened that the NKS activists will expedite the mass agitation and even lock offices of Sub-Collectors and district Collectors if the demands are not met soon.
