The student wing of the Congress gheraoed the SSC headquarters following the arrest of Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, private secretary to an OSSC Member, by the State Vigilance.
The agitating members alleged that several top officers at the OSSC have been involved in the ‘bribe for recruitment scam’ and Sahoo is a small fish in the recruitment scam.
“In the last two decades under Naveen Patnaik Government, most of the government jobs were sold to undeserving candidates for lakhs of rupees and the fate meritorious students has been thrown to oblivion,” said a student leader demanding a probe in the alleged scam.
On Friday Vigilance sleuths conducted raids on properties of Sahoo, and tracked down assets worth over Rs 3.79 crore from his possession. Next day, the anti-corruption agency arrested the accused official.
Besides the movable and immovable properties worth over Rs 3.79 crore, recruitment related applicant admit cards and such other incriminating documents have also been recovered from his house during the Vigilance raids.
The State Government today suspended Sahoo from his service, pending the inquiry against him.
