In 2016, the miserable life 71 Juanga tribal families in Nagada in Jajpur District, one of the mineral rich districts of Odisha exposed the Naveen Patnaik led BJD Government’s poor governance and rhetoric development model. Even after 21 years of a stable government Bhurunga and Bhanra Village under Bhanra Gram panchayat, is still deprived of basic amenities and people are forced to cross river risking their lives.
The Bhanra Gram panchayat under Bari Block of Jajpur district sans basic amenities and people live a life of isolation. Located just 15 km from district headquarters or Collectors office, Bhurunga and Bhanra village under Bari Block is surrounded by Budha River and Kharasrota River on the other. With dependence on boat, people face harrowing time crossing the river to reach hospital, school and transportation and are depended on boats. Even, pregnant women are forced to carry on slings due to absence of proper road for ambulance. While, school children are forced to cross river risking their lives.
“BJD Leader Sunanda Das had promised to fulfill our demands and won the 2019 election. But even after a year, no steps have been taken to build a bridge over the river. There populist government in the state has failed to provide us basic amenities,” said Snehalata Jena, resident of Bhanra Village.
Expressing concern and displeasure, Alisha Priyadarshini a Student and a resident Bhanra village said, “ We are forced to crossed river risking our live. Pregnant women are moved in slings as ambulance could not reach our village. There is lack of empathy in the government.”
There has been several boast mishaps but no one is taking up the matter seriously, Priyadarshini added.
There has been plethora of schemes in the state, but locals have alleged that, they are yet get the benefits of the schemes announced by the government.
