As the House met, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik placed an Obituary reference for the House to pay homage to former MLA Surendra Nath Kanhar.
Apart from the Chief Minister, Opposition Deputy Leader Bishnu Charan Sethi, Congress Legislature Party Leader Narasingha Mishra and Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha expressed deep grief over the demise of Kanhar, while saying that he will be remembered for his service to people.
Thereafter, Question Hour was transacted smoothly. During the debate a question, ruling BJD member Debi Prasad Mishra expressed concern that Tourism Development is not being happening in proper way for which footfall of foreign tourists has decreased. Funds allocated in the Budget have not been spent, he said and demanded that a special meeting be convened by the Speaker to discuss the issue.
BJP Deputy Leader Bishnu Charan Sethy and Congress leaders Narasingha Mishra, Santoshsingh Saluja and Suresh Chandra Routray expressed concern over the poor infrastructure in the tourism sector. Sethy demanded that a task force be formed for the purspose.
In his reply, Tourism Minister Ashwini Kumar Routray said the State Government has taken all steps for development of the sector. Rs 574 crorre will be spent for Tourism Development in 2022-23, he said.
During Zero Hour, BJP and Congress members were indulged in a faceoff over Nupur Sharma and Udayapur killing issues. As they shouted slogans standing at their seats, Speaker adjourned the House for 10 minutes.
