BJP State unit president Samir Mohanty attacked the State Government for allowing the tariff hike when the people are struggling to cope with the economic hardship they faced due to the pandemic.
Bhubaneswar, July 14: The State unit of BJP on Wednesday launched a week-long protest against the hefty power tariff hike and frequent power outages across Odisha.
The protest will continue till July 20, said BJP State unit president Samir Mohanty.
The saffron party staged demonstration in front of all the electricity offices starting from section to circle offices demanding rollback of power tariff hike at the earliest.
In the State Capital, hundreds of BJP activists staged stir at Master Canteen Square protesting power tariff hike.
Mohanty attacked the State Government for allowing the tariff hike when the people are struggling to cope with the economic hardship they faced due to the pandemic.
“Due to callous attitude of the Odisha Government, the power tariff has been increased even when consumers are going through hard times of corona pandemic. It has put extra financial burden on 92 lakh electricity consumers of the State,” he said.
The BJP leader has demanded that the State Government publish a whitepaper on steps being taken by it to resolve the problems.
He also threatened to intensify the agitation across the State if the power tariff hike is not rolled back within the next seven days.
