Holi, the festival of colours dedicated to Lord Shree Krishna, was not celebrated in the State for the last two years in view of Covid19 pandemic.
Governor Professor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have greeted people of the State on the auspicious occasion.
As usual way, children, youths and elderly people, particularly belonging to Hindu community, play with colours. They sprinkle Abira and different colours on each other. Delicious Odia sandwiches, juices and non-veg foods added to the merrymaking of families.
According to the Hindu mythology, the Holi is celebrated to mark the killing of woman demon Holika by Lord Shree Krishna during Dwapara Yuga.
By passing of time, brotherhood among people of different religious and sub-religion communities has also been essence of the festival.
In millennium city Cuttack, Holi is celebrated by Hindus, Muslims, Christians an people belonging to all other religions to uphold brotherhood among themselves.
The festival is celebrated a day after the sacred five-day Dola Utsav on the full moon day of the Odia month of Margasira.
