The victim has been identified as BK Jena a doctor of the Indian Airforce.
According to information, the doctor who resides in Chandrasekarpur area in the city, received a phone call from a man identifying himself as a staffer of electricity department, who informed him to pay the bill to avoid disconnection.
The person offered help and suggested to share his bank details and OTP and he followed the instructions. As soon he shared the OTP , Rs 1.46 lakh was deducted from his savings bank account.
With no option left, the doctor filed a written complaint at the local police station.
Amid online shopping frauds, international call frauds and many other such scams, swindlers have now come up with a new method to dupe people. The latest online fraud that is doing rounds is ‘non-payment of electricity bill’.
