The accused has been identified as Sibaram Goud of Lanjia village under Berhampur Sadar police station limits in the district.
As per reports, a fight broke out between Sibaram and his uncle, Narendra Goud, at a feast in the village. Narendra reportedly threw a plate at his nephew at the feast.
After the feast, Narendra went to the canal of the village. At that time, Shivram, who was hiding at the canal side, attacked his uncle and cut his throat with a blade, killing him on the spot.
Later, Shivram threw the body into the canal.
Family members started searching Narendra but failed to trace him out. Subsequently, they lodged a complaint with the Berhampur Sadar police station and suspected foul play by Shivram.
The police immediately arrested Shivram, who reportedly confessed his crime during the interrogation.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body from the canal and sent it to a hospital for autopsy.
“We arrested the main accused and recovered the body from the canal. Further investigation is underway,” a police officer said.
