“In view of the incessant rainfall in all blocks of Balangir district and to avoid any emergency situation, it is hereby declared to close down all schools throughout the distrct for today i.e. 14th Sept 2021,” said an order issued by the Collector & District Magistrate, Balangir.
Earlier, the State Government has shut down schools in 12 districts for two days i.e. 13th and 14th September, 2021 due to heavy downpour across the State since Saturday night due to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
Schools have been closed in the districts of Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur and Bargarh till Tuesday.
Notably, heavy rains, triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, lashed many parts in Odisha including the State Capital since last 48 hours.
Several low-lying areas in cities like capital Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Kendrapada, Balasore, Bhadrak etc. have been inundated with rainwater.
