Bhubaneswar, Feb 9: The Odisha government on Tuesday decided to move Supreme Court challenging Andhra Pradesh’s notification to conduct panchayat elections in three of its villages in Kotia gram panchyat in Koraput district.
The State Government today engaged advocate on record (AOR) Sibo Sankar Mishra to file a writ petition before the apex court in this connection.
“The Odisha Government engaged AOR Sibo Sankar Mishra to file writ petition before the apex court challenging the notification of the State Election Commission, Andhra Pradesh to hold panchayat elections of Kotia which are within the territory of the State of Odisha,” said an official.
Notably, Andhra Pradesh has notified to hold panchayat elections in three villages — Talaganjeipadar, Patusineri and Phagunseneri in Kotia gram panchayat under Pottangi block in Koraput district by changing their names to Ganjeibadara, Pattuchennuru and Pagluchennuru on February 13.
Nominations have been filed for the post of Sarpanch and Ward Members from the three villages.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has recently launched a slew of developmental projects worth over Rs 18 crore in Kotia gram panchayat.
In 2018, the State Government had announced developmental projects worth around Rs 150 crore for Kotia panchayat.
