Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra said that the procurement season would commence from November 1 and continue till June next year. The government will procure paddy during Kharif and Rabi seasons separately during the period.
In terms of paddy this comes to around 71 lakh MT and in terms of rice, it comes to around 48 lakh MT, he added. “For Kharif, the tentative target for procurement of paddy would be 57 lakh MT and for Rabi, 14 lakh MT.”
"There is no bar for procurement of any higher quantum if more paddy comes to 'mandis' from registered farmers," Mohapatra said.
Paddy will be procured as per the MSP declared by the Union Government at the rate of Rs 2040 per quintal for the Mormon variety and Rs 2060 per quintal for grade A variety, he added.
