Rainfall remains unsatisfactory as the southwest monsoon came late this year, stated the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
The Centre said though heavy rains are likely to occur in some districts in the next two days, still it may not cover up the scantiness. A scanty rainfall of over 44% has already been recorded in a period starting from June 1 till June 23.
Heavy rains are likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Ganjam, Boudh, Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak and Jajrpur. During this period, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in other parts of the State. Yellow warning has been issued to all the above districts.
The regional IMD centre also predicted heavy rains to occur in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatinghpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Kandamal, Sambalpur and Bargarh on June 25.
However, it predicted a complete dry weather from June 26 to 28.
Weather expert Surendranath Pashupalak said monsoon wind is likely to stop blowing as a monsoon-related circulation has already been formed. Conditions are not favourable for monsoon rains as there is no indication of a low pressure in either Arab sea or the Bay of Bengal. It was earlier predicted that June would witness a scanty rainfall.
