According to the State election commission, the counting for councillors/corporators and mayors/chairpersons of urban local bodies (ULBs) will be held simultaneously on separate tables across 108 of the 109 towns, which went to the polls on Thursday. Nearly 65 per cent of 40.55 lakh voters exercised their franchise.
Meanwhile, the counting for the Dhamnagar notified area council (NAC) has been kept on hold pending re-polling in some areas due to disruptions.
As many as 6,411 candidates have remained in the fray for election. While 569 candidates have remained in the battle field for the posts of Chairperson/Mayor, 5,842 candidates are there for the election to Councillor/Corporator seats.
Direct elections to the posts of mayors in municipal corporations, and chairpersons of municipalities and NACs were being held for the first time.
The State election commission has also introduced the NOTA option in urban polls.
Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements have been made for the counting of votes in the civic bodies across the State.
