A 21-year-old man of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district has been arrested by Maharashtra Police for allegedly blackmailing a Mumbai-based model by threatening to post her morphed pictures on social media platforms.
Nabarangpur, Jul 17: A 21-year-old man of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district has been arrested by Maharashtra Police for allegedly blackmailing a Mumbai-based model by threatening to post her morphed pictures on social media platforms, police said on Saturday.
The accused has been identified as Sourabh Mandal (21) of Sunabeda village under Umerkote police station limits in the district.
As per reports, Mandal, who is currently pursuing Bachelor of Science at Vikram Dev College in Jeypore, allegedly obtained some photographs of a Mumbai-based model from her Instagram and Facebook account and morphed those pictures into indecent images.
Later, the accused blackmailed the model by threatening that he would post the morphed photos on social media platforms if she does not pay him money.
Fearing over the incident, the model reportedly paid some amount of money to the accused person and refrained from using social media networks.
However, the accused managed to obtain the address of the model’s brother and demanded money by threating to post the morphed photographs on social media.
The model then lodged a complaint at the Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police in this regard.
Based on the victim’s complaint, a team of Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch led by Assistant Police Inspector Jayadeep Yadav arrested the accused the youth from his residence with the help of Umerkote Police.
Cases under relevant Sections of IT Act have been registered against the youth, police said adding that the matter is being investigated.
