Balasore, Dec 14: The body of a seven-year-old girl, who had gone missing since Friday, was found near a pond at Sundarakoili village under Baliapal police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday morning.
On being informed Baliapal police reached the spot and seized the body, which will be sent to a hospital for autopsy test.
Police also detained a person of the village in this connection and started interrogation, when the last reports came in.
According to reports, Bhanupriya Patra (7), nicknamed Neuli, daughter of one Balaram Patra, was living and studying at her uncle’s house in Sundarkoili village.
The minor girl was last seen playing with her friends in the village at around 9 AM on Friday. When she did not return till late in the afternoon, her family members started searching for her. However, the girl was not traced.
Later on Friday evening, her father filed a missing complaint at Baliapal police station.
This is not an isolated case of “minor girl child missing case” in Odisha.
A three-year-old girl, Swati, of Badhipatna village under Ranpur police limits in Nayagarh district, has been missing since Friday afternoon. She was not traced yet.
On July 14, a five-year-old girl, Pari, had gone missing in similar fashion while she was playing near her house at Jadupur village in Nayagarh district. Later on July 23, her decomposed body was found stuffed in a sack behind the house near a pond.
The incident has triggered political storm in the State after Pari’s parents attempted self-immolation in front of the State Assembly on November 24, seeking justice for their daughter.
Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior IPS officer Arun Bothra has been probing the ‘Pari’ case.
In similar incident, Shubhalakhmi, nicknamed Pihu, has been missing from Madhusudanpur village under Binjharpur police limits in Jajpur district for four months. She went missing while playing in front of her house in early August.
