As per the allegation of the beneficiary he took the matter immediately to the notice of the concerned PEO but all in vain.
Koraput, Jun 21: In a shocking incident, a few pieces of counterfeit currencies have been allegedly distributed to the social security beneficiaries in Podapadar panchayat under Narayanpatna block of Koraput district recently.
The discrepancy came to fore on June 18 after one Singa Nachika (65) of the same locality reached Podapadar panchayat office to receive his old age pension money. Much to his dismay, after receiving the sum from Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) Ahari Jani, he found a few currencies of Rs 200 denominations to be ‘fake’.
As per the allegation of the beneficiary he took the matter immediately to the notice of the concerned PEO but all in vein. The PEO shrugged off the responsibility by informing that the notes had been received from the bank and he had nothing to do with the same.
While finding no other option available, the victim returned home with the same notes, the incident has sparked concerned among other old age pension beneficiaries in the village.
Moreover, the incident has put a question mark on the honesty and integrity of the panchayat office as well as the bank staff over failing to detect fake currencies.
Locals are demanding immediate action on the part of the administration to solve the issue.
