The accused persons have been identified as Bijay Mohanty of Barunei in Khodha district, SK Jumman Badruddin of Jhadeswarpur in Balasore, Soumyajit Parija, Sagar Behera and Sapan Bhattacharya of Jagatsinghpur.
On the basis of intelligence input regarding illegal trade of Narcotic Drugs, a team of STF, Bhubaneswar conducted a raid on Khordha-Barunei road on Friday and apprehended prime accused Bijay Mohanty.
During search, brown sugar weighing 1.50 kg, packing machine and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from his possession.
Later, four other accused persons, who had allegedly supplied the drug to Bijay, were nabbed on their way to Balasore in the State. A car and cash of Rs.5,30,000 were also seized from their possession, STF officials said.
A case has been registered against the accused persons under NDPS Act, 1985 and further investigation is underway, they added.
Since 2020, STF in the special drive against narcotic drugs has seized more than 29 kg of brown sugar/ heroin and more than 64 quintals of ganja and arrested more than 100 drug dealers/peddlers.
