Nandapur, Mar 18: Continuing with its crackdown on illegal drug traders, Koraput Police seized 144.7 kg ganja from a pickup van and took two persons into custody by conducting a raid near Hataguda Chhak near Andhra-Odisha border last night.
Based on a tip-off from Koraput SP, Padua Police led by Nandapur SDPO launched a patrolling on Bailiguda-Hataguda road late in the night. During the operation, the police team intercepted a pickup van (Registration Number-OD 05Y 6553) on suspicion of carrying cannabis consignment from Andhra’s Sudubu to Bihar. During the search of the vehicle several packets of ganja were found which weighed around 144.7 kg and seized.
Later, police took the pickup van to Padua Police Station and arrested the peddler duo who was boarding it.
The market value of the seized ganja consignment will be around Rs 5 lakh.
Charges under the relevant Sections of NDPS Act have been lodged against the held peddler duo identified as Santosh Kumar Yadav and Malu Kumar Yadav of Bihar. They would be forwarded to court soon, said police.
