Nayagarh, May 17: More than 15 people sustained injuries after residents of two villages under Ranpur police limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district got into a tussle on Monday over alleged power theft from a village.
The injured persons were rushed to Ranpur hospital for their treatment.
As per reports, some residents of Sriharipur village under Ranpur police limits were allegedly involved in power theft from a transformer located in nearby Jagannathpur village.
The residents of Jagannathpur approached the electricity department and urged to take appropriate action against the alleged power theft. Later, they locked the transformer after taking permission from the electricity department.
However, a group of people from Sriharipur village broke open the lock of the transformer, triggering altercation between two villagers this morning.
The argument turned ugly after a group of people attacked another group with sharp weapons and the other also retaliated, leaving over 15 people injured from both sides.
On being informed, police reached the spot and started a probe into the matter.
