Baripada, Jun 11: Continuing its crackdown on wildlife traders the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police’s Crime Branch seized pangolin scale weighing over 4 kg from Balichua village in Mayurbhanj district on Friday and arrested a poacher.
The held poacher has been identified as Suren Prusty, a local resident.
Based on tip-off on the wildlife trade which was underway at a house in Balichua village for past few months, the STF raided the same with the help of Baripada Forest Division officials and detained the accused. During a search of the place pangolin scale weighing 4.820 grams were found.
As the owner of the house failed to produce necessary documents supporting the possession of pangolin scale he was taken into custody for interrogation.
Notably, by launching a operation against the wildlife mafia in last one year the STF has so far seized three live pangolins, 10 kg pangolin scales, nine elephant tusks, two deer skin. At least 27 wildlife criminals have also been apprehended during the drive.
