Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: Paddy procurement process will continue till March 31 and paddy will be purchased from registered farmers only.
“Paddy procurement process will continue till March 31. We will procure paddy from all registered farmers,” said Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare and Cooperation Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain outside the Assembly chamber on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, he had made a statement on the State’s paddy procurement scenario in the House amid din created due to protests by Opposition members, who demanded a detailed discussion on the issue.
“Compared to last year’s Kharif season, 25% marginal farmers and 20% more small farmers have sold out paddy to Government this year. The process will continue despite the fact that the Centre has not released subsidy money yet and there is death of funds. Paddy will be procured from those who are registered with us and not ghost farmers,” said the Minister further.
It may be noted that the Odisha Legislative Assembly, which is in session now, has been witnessing stalemates for the last three days as Opposition BJP and Congress members are protesting against non-procurement of paddy.
