Bhubaneswar, Apr 14: The Pipili by-poll, which was scheduled to be held three days after on April 17, has been postponed in view of passing away of Congress candidate Ajit Mangaraj this afternoon.
Notably, Mangaraj passed away due to Covid-19 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha Sushil Lohani said the report of passing away report of Congress candidate will be sent to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for further decision. He said a fresh notification for the Pipili by-poll will be issued.
It is noteworthy that Mangaraj had unsuccessfully contested on a Congress ticket from Pipili Assembly segment in 2019 election. Earlier, he had also unsuccessfully contested from the seat on a BJP ticket.
