Udala, Feb 13: Launching a crackdown against the illegal hunting of wild animals, Forest Department officials seized 4 kg elk meat by conducting a raid in Angarapada village under Udala Forest Division in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.
Getting a tip-off on the elk poaching, Udala Forest Range officials carried out a raid in Angarpada village in the afternoon and searched a house. During the search the venison was seized and one poacher identified as Gopal Singh was taken into custody.
Officials found one billhook, a few live country-made bullets and even cooked venison from the possession of the accused.
During the interrogation of Gopal he has admitted of sharing venison meet with his aides after poaching, said officials.
Further investigation is underway into the case.
