Cuttack, Feb 23: Intensifying the probe in Mahanga widow murder case police on Friday detained the victim’s brother-in-law for questioning suspecting his involvement in the crime.
“Annapurna was living alone after her usband's death in a half-constructed house near an isolated farmland in Bheda village, where her body was found. Her only son is living with his family in Bangalore. I suspect she has been raped and murdered,” the deceased’s father Bharat Prasad Jena had claimed a day after the incident on February 18.
On February 17, a local resident in Bheda village came across the semi nude body of Annapurna Mohapatra (45), the victim, in a muddy patch of a farmland located 200 metres away from her home.
From the circumstantial evidences found on the spot by police it seemed that, Annapurna locked the gate of her house and went out to attend nature’s call late in the night when the assailant struck.
