Naveen has also spoken to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national President JP Nadda in this regard.
“BJP President JP Nadda spoke to me about the filing of nomination of Draupadi Murmu for President Election. My cabinet colleagues Jagannath Saraka and Tukuni Sahu will sign nomination papers today and attend the event tomorrow,” Naveen tweeted.
Meanwhile, Odisha BJP has informed that more than 10 MLAs will attend the nomination filing event. “Over 10 BJP MLAs will attend nomination filing event of Draupadi Murmu tomorrow for the Presidential Election. I thank CM Naveen Patnaik for extending support to the candidature of Murmu for the post of country's President,” said Sundergarh MLA Kusum Tete.
On Wednesday, Naveen appealed to all MLAs in the State, cutting across party lines, to support Draupadi Murmu, who has been named as the NDA candidate in the presidential election.
Patnaik's BJD had supported NDA candidates in the previous two presidential elections (2012, 2017) also. In 2017, Patnaik had supported NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind after receiving a call from the Prime Minister. At that time, he had stated that the office of the President is above political consideration and the BJD wanted to keep it above politics.
