Bhubaneswar, Apr 7: Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Das on Wednesday wrote to Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, seeking early supply of 25 lakh doses of Covishield to the State for effective vaccination of the targeted population.
“In order to effectively deal with the Covid 19 pandemic, it is essential to step up vaccination of vulnerable persons. Odisha is vaccinating 2.5 lakh persons daily. Due to shortage of vaccine, we had to close nearly 700 vaccination centres in the State. Only 755 centres functional today,” noted Das in the letter.
He mentioned that as of April 4 Odisha has stock of 5.34 lakh doses of Covishield. With this, Odisha will be able to continue vaccination for two days. By April 9, there will be stock-out of Covishield vaccine in the entire State. This will adversely impact timely administration of second dose of Covishield as well as delay in vaccination of Covishield. Therefore, I request you to take necessary step for supplying at least 10 days’ stock i.e. 25 lakh doses of Covishield to the State immediately,” urged Das.
