Bhubaneswar, Jul 19: Another incident of a private hospital allegedly applying hooliganism at a poor family has come to the fore in the capital city, Bhubaneswar.
According to inforamation, the Nilachal Hospital, in Unit III area of the city, is not handing over a dead body to the bereaved family due to non-payment of dues amounting Rs 1.5 lakh in violation of a Supreme Court order, which says no healthcare unit can retain a dead body even over non-payment of dues of Rs 1.
Admitted with some disease a few days back, one 18-year-old Subas Nayak succumbed under treatment early this morning. The family has already paid huge amounts towards treatment cost. After his death, when the family members asked the hospital authorities to hand over the body, the latter said the corpse will be handed over only on payment of dues amounting Rs 1.5 lakh.
While father of the deceased said he has paid huge amount of money and is not able to pay any more amount as he has not received salary for the last 22 months, the hospital authorities didn’t listen to his plights.
