The accused official, identified as Raikia Tehsildar Chakradhar Padhi, has been arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from one Senapati Pradhan of Mandakia village in Kandhamal district in order to release a seized tractor, officials said.
As per reports, the Tehsildar had earlier seized Pradhan’s tractor while the vehicle was allegedly found carrying stones without the permission of any competent authority.
Later, the Tehsildar demanded Pradhan a bribe of Rs 40,000 to release his seized tractor.
However, Pradhan approached the Vigilance Department and sought action against the accused official.
Based on the complaint, the Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught the Tehsildar red-handed while he was accepting the bribe money from Pradhan.
“The bribe money of Rs 40,000 has been recovered and seized from the accused Tehsildar. Subsequently, the official was arrested. Further investigation is underway,” a Vigilance official said.
