Puri, Mar 7: The VIP Road, Puri is very likely to be renamed after Mahatma Gandhi. It is so perceived from the fact that a resolution was unanimously passed at the second meeting of the Mahatma Gandhi Utkal Agaman Shatabarshiki Committee held at the Circuit House here on Saturday and the Puri district administration has decided to send the resolution to the State Government for approval.
Mahatma Gandhi had come to Odisha on March 23, 1921. He visited various places in Puri, including Satyabadi, between March 26 and 28 and garnered support of people for freedom struggle.
Various programmes have also been planned to be undertaken to remember centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to Odisha, informed committee functionaries.
Committee functionaries like MP Pinaki Misra, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash, Satyabadi MLA Umakant Samantray, former Minister Maheshwar Mohanty and many intellectuals participated in the meeting.
According to information, various programmes such as photo exhibition, special postal ticket show, processions, Gandhi talks and public meetings will be conducted at Satyabadi and Puri on March 26 and 27, respectively. Thereafter, Padayatra will be taken out at different places in the State. A large number of youths will participate in the programmes.
