Bhubaneswar, June 1: Veteran football coach from Odisha Nanda Kishore Patnaik passed away while undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at a private hospital here on Monday night. He was 65.
As per his family members Patnaik had been tested positive for Covid-19 last month to be admitted to a private hospital in the city but his condition didn’t improve.
Having credit of training a number of successful woman footballers in the State namely, Sradhanjali Samantaray, Ranjita Mohanty, Mamata Samanta, Jayanti Behera, Sudipta Sahu, Mamali Das and Runu Nayak.
Popularly known as Tutu sir among his students, Patnaik have helped a number players at junior and senior level in woman football in the State in last two decades.
Born on March 16, 1956 in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district, Patnaik chose to train footballers starting from 1992-93. Later, he started imparting coaching woman footballers in 1995 and was chosen to be the coach of State women’s football team on several occasions.
CNN IBN had also honoured Patnaik with Real Heroes award for his immense contribution towards training poor and orphan girls in Odisha for free to be football players at Nita Ambani Football Academy.
