Odisha visitors saw the big cat moving slowly in the jungle in the Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary for the first time. Royal Bengal Tiger was not even seen in the Similipal and Satakosia wildlife sanctuaries earlier.
“A Royal Bengal Tiger was never seen in any jungle in Odisha in recent years. It is a matter of happiness that it was seen in the Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary for the first time,” said an animal lover.
In 2018, a tiger was seen in a jungle in Nuapada, he said.
Notably, the Debrigarh wildlife sanctuary is located near Hirakud dam, covering a total area of 346.91 km. The sanctuary is an important location for the conservation of various wildlife and their habitat. It is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Over 40 species of mammals, 200 species of birds, 40 species of reptiles, 12 species of amphibians, 42 species of fishes, 39 species of odonates, 85 species of butterflies and 38 species of spiders have been found living in the sanctuary.
