The protester staged a road blockade near Bhima Bhoi and Medical squares as part of the bandh following which hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway.
Holding placards and banners, the agitators staged demonstrations at different places in the town. They also blocked all entry points of the town at around 6 am to express their concern over deteriorating condition of the NH-55 from Rairakhol to Sambalpur.
Leading political parties, several trade unions, Bar Association and other social organisations supported the dawn-to-dusk bandh in the town.
Educational institutions, private offices, shops and business establishments remained closed while vehicular movement came to a grinding halt in and around the town.
The commuters faced difficulties to reach their destinations. However, emergency services continued to remain unaffected.
