Nayagarh, Feb 16: In an interesting incident police arrested a Sarpanch on the charge of accumulating disproportionate assets while he was hiding inside a mango garden to evade arrest in Siddhamula village under Khandapada Police Station in Nayagarh district.
As per the report, the accused identified as Kailash Dalei came under scanner during an audit of funds spent on different development projects in Siddhamula panchayat by the district administration a few days back.
He was found guilty of swindling away fund to the tune of Rs 17 lakh sanctioned under different project heads.
While, Kailash had been taken into custody by police yesterday based on a complaint of Khandapada BDO, he managed to escape subsequently.
After conducting a search operation police arrested the him today from a hideout inside a mango orchid.
