Bhubaneswar, Feb 11: The Supreme Court has agreed to conduct a hearing on the contempt petition filed by Odisha against Andhra Pradesh over the boundary dispute in Kotia area of Koraput district.
The Supreme Court will hear the case tomorrow, according to information.
Notably, the Odisha Government had yesterday knocked the doors of the apex court seeking contempt of court proceedings against Andhra Pradesh Government over the Kotia border dispute. It prayed for a speedy hearing as the Andhra Pradesh Government has announced for holding panchayat polls in the said region.
In the petition, the Government has mentioned that the Supreme Court in 1968 had asked for maintaining status quo in the disputed area. In 2006, it had also upheld its earlier judgement.
It may be noted that Kotia dispute is a long pending border issue between Odisha and Andhra Pradhesh as both the States have been claiming sovereign rights over the area, which consists of 27 small tribal hamlets.
