Puri, Mar 28: In view of the escalating Covid 19 situation, the Shree Jagannath Temple here will remain closed for devotees on Sundays from April 4 for sanitization and cleaning purposes.
Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Krishan Kumar said the decision has been taken to curb spread of Covid-19 infection among servitors and devotees.
“The temple will be sanitised on every Sunday as it used to be after the temple reopened on all devotees on December 3 last year,” said the SJTA Chief.
The decision was taken at the last Chhatisa Nijog meeting.
It may be noted that the Shreemandir used to remain closed on Sundays in December and January for sanitization work. However, devotees were subsequently allowed on Sundays to visit the temple and have darshan of the Trinity as there was a gradual improvement in Covid situation in the State in last half of January and February.
