However, the Holi celebration has turned fatal as several drowning cases were reported across the State.
According to information, as many as six persons lost their lives in separate incidents of drowning after celebrating Holi on Saturday.
In Sambalpur, two persons took a watery grave while taking bath in a river in Sambalpur district’s Kuchinda area this morning. The two were taking bath at Saidjhali ghat after celebrating Holi at around 12 pm when they slipped into the deep water. On being informed, fire services personnel rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies.
In another incident, two youths died while bathing in the Indravati River in Odisha's Koraput district after the Holi celebration on Saturday. A group of youths went for a bath in the Indravati River near Kotapad in the district this afternoon. However, two of them were swept away in the strong current of the river.
Such an incident was also reported from Berhampur. One Papu Singh drowned while he was taking bath in the Karkandeswar pond near Lanjhipalli this afternoon.
Holi celebrations turned fatal for youth from Biribati area as he drowned to death while taking bath in the Mahanadi River at Koruan ghat near Nimeisapur. The deceased Abhijit Barik and his friends were taking bath in the river after playing Holi.
The State also reported one accidental death case on this day.
A 26-year-old man Tulu Pradhan of Mathurapur village under Narasinghpur police station limits in Cuttack district died after he hit an electric pole along the road. The deceased, who was under the influence of alcohol, hit the utility pole after losing control over the wheels.
He was rushed to Narasinghpur CHC, however, doctors at the hospital declared him dead.
Apart from accidents, group clashes and incidents of violence regarding the Holi celebration were also reported in the State.
At least four persons of two groups sustained critical injuries after a heated spat broke out between the two groups at Gadabandhagoda village under Ramchandrapur police station in Keonjhar district this morning. The victims were admitted to a nearby government hospital for treatment.
On the other Holi celebration also witnessed a political clash in Balasore. According to reports, three persons sustained critical injuries during the Holi celebration at Gobindapur village under Soro police limits. Some BJp supporters were playing Holi in the village when BJD workers opposed them and stopped them from celebrating the festival. A verbal spat broke out between the two groups and then it took an ugly turn as the members of two groups attacked each other leaving three critical.
