The incident which took place while preparations were underway for the Suna Besha or Raja Besha rituals of the deities to mark the occasion of ‘Dola Purnima’ is being seen as ‘bad omen’ for many.
As per the report, the victim identified as Kunu Mohapatra, a Brahmin servitor was busy in the rituals at Ugra Nrusingha temple located near the Western entrance of the temple known as ‘Byaghradwara’ in the morning when the mishap took place.
The four feet in length Hiranyakashyap idol held by Ugra Nrusingha idol detached and fell on Mohapatra. He sustained grievous injury to his leg and bled profusely.
The fellow servitors rushed Mohapatra to Puri DHH and then shifted to Bhubaneswar for better treatment.
While, the servitor is currently under treatment the temple administration has announced to bear all his medical expenses.
The matter will be investigated, assured the temple authorities.
