Puri, Feb 15: A Srimandir staff sustained grievous injuries after a servitor attacked him following a verbal duel over not adhering to set rules and regulations for temple entry.
The victim has been identified as Damodar Gochhikar, a Jatri Sahayak engaged on the duty of helping devotees.
As per the report, Damodar had been deployed at the Hasti Dwara (north gate) of the temple when the incident took place. The accused identified as Suara Nijog servitor Ramakrushna Khuntia tried to enter into the temple through the gate by carrying a Kodua (earthen pot), which is otherwise not allowed.
“Ramakrushna tried to make an entry into the temple by holding a ‘kodua’ to which I objected by reminding him of the set rules and regulations by the temple administration. Earthen pots are allowed into the temple through the Aswadwara (southern gate),” informed Damodar.
“He went berserk over my disallowance and indulged in an argument. As the spat intensifying Ramakrushna hit me on the head,” Damodar added.
The victim was rushed to Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment post the incident.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim at Simhadwara Police Station, Ramakrushna has been taken into custody.
