Bhubaneswar, Apr 30: In view of Covid situation worsening in its second wave, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced that Food Security Act beneficiaries will get additional 5 kg rice free of cost in May and June.
Around 12 lakh people will get additional rice for two months. The State Government will bear the expenditure to be incurred for distribution of extra rice, said an official.
It may be noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modia had recently announced that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana will be reinforced under which each poor people will get 5 kg rice free of cost.
Notably, poor people are getting 5 kg rice/wheat per head under the NFSA/ State Food Security scheme now.
