Sambalpur, Feb 20: Tension prevailed at NAC College in Burla after hundreds of students staged protest on its premise demanding relaxation in readmission fee in view of Covid-19 pandemic.
As per the report, student unrest erupted in the college after the authorities released notification for readmission to the second year classes of Plus Two streams and fixed the fee at Rs 4,200. Students immediately came up with the demand that the fee must be relaxed in view of pandemic.
“While other colleges in the area are giving readmission fee relaxation for Corona, our college is collecting such a huge amount, is not acceptable. When we posted a request to the Principal she didn’t take any action,” said a girl student of +2 stream.
The agitating students have also alleged that despite collecting huge amount of fees under different heads like, drinking water, canteen and library the college authorities have failed to provide them such facilities. They even claimed that, the repairing and maintenance of the school building are being undertaken by the fund collected from the students.
“We came to know that the repairing and maintenance inside the campus is being carried out in our money. Why should we pay for the same as we have not damaged any infrastructure,” asked an agitating student.
However, the Principal of the College Sanjukta Panigrahi rubbished the allegation of the student by saying no written complaint has been lodged to her.
“No fee collected from the students is being used in repairing and maintenance of the campus. Only the fund generated as development fee are being used in the work. As far as the relaxation in readmission fee is concerned, I have communicated the matter to the governing body of the college, which would take the final call in this regard,” said Panigrahi.
