As per the report, sparks erupted at one Suchitra Mahalik’s house in the area in the morning and spread to Apsari Mahalik’s house located in the neighbourhood rapidly.
While the residents immediately called up the local fire brigade office the fire tenders made an inordinate delay in reaching the spot. Finding no other option people launched firefighting effort on their own and contained the blaze after a Herculean effort.
At least two differently-abled women who remained inside the affected houses were also rescued in the joint effort of the villagers and rushed to Chandbali CHC during mishap.
A verbal duel erupted between the locals and the fire brigade officials after the latter reached the after the dousing of the fire.
“The fire brigade officials didn’t turn up despite our repeated appeal. He had communicated the address properly but they failed to provide us on time assistance. Properties worth lakhs have been lost to the fire due to their negligence. We protest it,” said an irate villager.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an electric short circuit is being suspected for it.
