Malkangiri, Mar 31: Three hardcore Maoists, carrying a combined cash reward of Rs 9 lakh on their heads, surrendered before the police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Wednesday.
The ultras, identified as Rama Abaka and Mainu Khora hailing from Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh and Raghunath Khora of Swabhiman Annchal of Malkangiri district, surrendered before Malkangiri Superintendent of Police, Rishikesh D Khilari at the district headquarters here.
While Rama and Mainu were working as area committee member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), Raghunath was a cadre of the banned organization.
Official sources said that Rama and Mainu were carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh each on their heads, while Raghunath was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head announced by the Odisha Government.
The surrendered Maoists said they decided to give up the path of violence and return to the social mainstream as they realized that the Maoists were indulging in extortion and killing of innocent tribals instead of helping the poor.
The trio will be further provided assistance as per the surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy, a senior police officer said.
