Bhadrak, Jan 4: Three members of a family, including a six-year-old boy, sustained severe burn injuries after their hut caught fire in Bhadrak district of Odisha on Monday.
The incident occurred at Talapada village under Tihidi police station limits in the district.
The victims have been identified as Sudarshan Mallick, his wife Khulana Mallick and their son Rudra.
As per reports, the mishap occurred when they were asleep. The neighbours noticed the smoke billowing from the house and alerted the local fire department. The flames quickly engulfed the house.
By the time the fire brigade personnel reached the spot, the villagers managed to rescue the victims and rushed them to the District Headquarter Hospital here. Later, the mother and son were shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttak as their condition deteriorated.
Household goods worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes in the fire mishap before the fire brigade personnel doused the flame.
On being informed, police reached the spot and started a probe into the matter.
The exact cause of the fire was still not known and further investigations were on to ascertain the facts, an official said.
