Nuapada, Feb 19: A farmer allegedly consumed poison as an attempt to commit suicide over non-procurement of paddy at Dhingiamunda village under Sinapali block in Nuapada district on Friday.
The condition of the farmer, identified as Romachana Dandasena of Dhingiamunda village, is stated to be critical.
Dandasena was first rushed to the Sinapali hospital. However, he was shifted to Khariar hospital and then to District Headquarters Hospital, Nuapada as his condition worsened.
According to information, Dhandasena had taken 85 bags of paddy to Kendumunda Mandi for sale. While his paddy was not procured, the date of his token lapsed on the very day. Besides, his Rabi cultivation was completely destroyed due to lack of water. Electricity connection had been snatched due to nonpayment of pending bills. For these reasons, he was under tremendous pressure, said the family members.
