Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: A total of 74,176 cases were registered at the State Commission for Women (SCW) between 1993 and 2020 and, of them, 63,046 cases have been disposed, informed Women and Child Development Minister Tukuni Sahu in the Odisha Assembly on Saturday.
Submitting a reply to a question asked by BJD MLA Prasant Behera, the Minister said steps are afoot to settle pending 11,130 cases through district-level camp courts as soon as possible.
As per the data provided by the Minister, there was no case pending before the commission till 2009. While two cases each remained pending in 2010 and 2011, the number of pending cases rose to eight in 2012 and catapulted to 130 in 2013, to 802 in 2014, to 966 in 2015, to 1,210 in 2016 and to 2,188 the following year. The number declined to 2,025 in 2018 but increased to 2050 in 2019. However, the figure decreased to 1,747 in 2020.
