As per reports, the vehicle carrying over 15 passengers, mostly PDS beneficiaries, lost control of the wheels and overturned at Sangari ghat near Thuamul Rampur in the district this afternoon.
Two persons reportedly died on the spot and 12 others including women and children were injured in the mishap.
The victims, residents of Barshikona village, reportedly went to Sindhipadar Panchayat office under Thuamul Rampur block to collect rice under Public Distribution System (PDS) scheme. The mishap occurred when they were returning home after collecting their PDS rice from the Panchayat office.
On being informed, local police and fire department officials reached the spot and rescued the injured persons. The injured were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kalampur for their treatment.
Meanwhile, Police registered a case and initiated a probe into the incident.
The bodies were sent for post-mortem and a case has been filed in connection with the accident, police said.
