As per reports, the gunfight took place in a forest area near Makeri village under Gochhapada police station limits in the district, bodering to Boudh district, after security personnel of Odisha’s elite Special Operation Group (SOG) and Kandhamal district voluntary force (DVF) spotted a Maoist camp during a combing operation.
As the Maoists opened fire targeting the security forces, the SOG and DVF personnel retaliated in self-defence in which the two Maoists were gunned down, informed a senior Police officer.
Some arms and ammunition have also been seized from the Maoist camp, he added.
Meanwhile, the security personnel have intensified their combing operation in the region.
On November 24, two women Maoists carrying cash awards of Rs 4 lakh each on their heads were gunned down in an exchange of fire with the special operation group (SOG) of Odisha Police in Gandhamardhan hills of Balangir district.
